You heard it here FIRST

Oh, I just love new things.  especially when it has to do with Social Media.  This new Social Media tool is the combination of a little old with the new!  And businesses get to trial this for free. I absolutely love it…it checks all the boxes for me.

  1. You can trial it for free
  2. There are no contracts.  Use it it when you need it
  3. It generates genuine leads for your business.
  4. Increase likes to your Facebook page
  5. Uses smartphone technology to generate further leads
  6. Creates sales through action
  7. Gets customers to tell their friends
  8. Create your own campaign.  You decided what you want to showcase and sell
  9. Database is automatically collected on your behalf
  10. You don’t have to invest tons of time to manage your campaign.  Post and get results

I got results within 5 minutes I posted my first campaign.  I got likes, names of people that wanted to know more about my product, and generate sales.  I was very impressed.

So give it a go for yourself:  www.grapevineqr.com

Oh, and let me know how successful it was for you.  I like to know if some information that I write helps those out there.

Good Luck and have a great weekend.

Media Gagging in Australia

A very befitting title for a bill that the current government is trying to pass.  The true questions is what are the ramifications if this bill is passed?

Currently the government proposes to adopt a separate council to govern the way media (online and print) did their jobs.  In other words, some material can be published and others cannot, which for me is a breach of the freedom of speech.  Being a democratic country, one has the right to approve/disapprove of any matter.  Below is a little more of what is currently happening in Australia about this bill:

http://www.afr.com/p/national/labor_media_plan_doomed_kOmAqcf1Yroy3t39fFKvNO

It was not long ago that the world had to deal with the effects of Hitler and his propaganda methods. It is why freedom of speech is so valuable.  It gives anyone the right to stand up and say:  “I don’t agree with that”.

Of course, while this thankfully, will not be passed, it does beckon me to question whether this proposal will be submitted again in the future.  And if passed, how exactly will the government control all online publishing, with companies such as WordPress currently based in the U.S.A.  Would that mean that the U.S.A. will also seek the same bill, thus creating a global control on media?

I guess time will only tell, but for now it seems that online media is safe, and I can write still within my freedom of speech rights!

Wrapping it Up….

Wow, what a week it has been, from the new YouTube “smash hits” to the Social Media Marketing Convention.

Um...I don't think so

Um…I don’t think so

Of course my all time drama hit was the Facebook Graph Search.  You know, so many people still complain about the Timeline feature – and you know what?  You just cannot go back to the former Facebook Profile Page.  That option is “history”.  And I am sure that if everyone knew that they would not be able to go back – they would have thought twice before enabling it.  Which brings me back to the Graph Search.  Once it is enabled – there is NO going back.  That is it!  Personally – I rather not, so I have to click the – “remind me later” every time I log into FaceBook.  And if they just automatically change that for me without my permission (as they did to so many friends who preferred the older version and woke up one day to the new timeline on the profile page without their approval), then I will have to say that it will be a “good-bye” FaceBook and probably “hello” Google Plus!  Not sure on that one right now.

However my thoughts also traveled in the direction of businesses.  If there are more people out there that are not comfortable sharing their who life with the world, then you probably find that getting someone to like a page will probably be a lot harder.  And currently a lot of new businesses are struggling to get a like.

I also wonder what prompted Facebook to create this “new pillar”.  Isn’t the pillars of Facebook the members on it?  Without those members you would not have Facebook!  The only reason I could come up with is a financial one.  But I am not sure it was a smart move.  Once again – only time will tell – for those that want to be found will probably trial it and love it.  While people like me will probably watch and observe!  I just find the privacy blatant exposure a little to hap-hazard for my liking.

BUT – onward to better news.  If you have not signed up for the Social Media Marking Convention in San Diego, and are in the area – you may want to.  I live far far away from San Diego, so this will not happen for me, but what an opportunity to talk to others that are in the same mind set as yourself.  If you want to find out more go to this link:

As for YouTube Hits – what can I say….except that anything that is anything goes.  And as I write there will be another sensation in the mix.

Well..that is a Rap for this week.  It sure has been interesting one, and next week I want to tap into the Social Media “toys” on the scene.

Identity Theft

Look – I love Social Media.  It is a way to connect to the world.  And as you know, by joining the Social Media circle, you are exposing yourself to the rest of the world.  But while I enjoy connecting to the world, my family chooses not to. And as a result, I can lock some photos to only be shared with some people.  It is the security option Facebook used to give us.  However, this new Facebook Graph search has really raised a number of flags….and of course all those “conspiracy theory” films just jump to the front of the memory line!

Facebook has introduced a new search method called the Graph Search.  It basically the same components as Google, but this time you are using friends, friends of friends, friends of those friends etc….to get information.

Below is a video where Mark Zuckerberg (with staff) explain in their way.

If you have finished watching the video here are some things you should be asking yourself:

  1. Do I still have security on my profile
  2. Can anyone see my profile, my friends, likes etc

Facebook Graph Search allows people to find things that their friends like – such as movies, sports, bars etc. Facebook does stress that it you can only search content that is shared with you. (which for me is a very grey area)

But the questions I pose is this:

1. If I like a page that means I shared that page.  Which means that any of those people on that like page can find out more about me?

2.  And if I do come up on the search parameter, does that mean those people can now see all my likes, places I traveled, basically everything about me?

I don’t know but it sounds awfully close to Identity Theft at the moment.  So many people put so much information out there that it is now easier for others to get hold of it.

Since the news release of this new FB Graph Search,  I have done a lot of reading and researching.  I have watched a number of videos. In one video it suggested by one of the Face Book’s upper management that if you don’t want people to see your photos then delete them off your page.  That was when I really started asking more serious questions!  What does he know that we don’t!

As for me – the verdict is still out on this one, and I can only watch and observe from this point.

WARNING:  if you do enable Facebook Graph Search – you can not go back to the former search bar.

Viral Marketing with Facebook

Okay – old news.  Many of know that Facebook is the key to viral marketing.  You just have to watch the news about how a page got a million likes to know that Facebook works.

However many people still don’t know Facebook or how it works.  So today I decided to let the expert, Chris Farrell, show you how to market your business through Facebook.  The course is Free, so all you need is a good cuppa and some time!

The course is called:   Social Networking and Viral Marketing Using Facebook

The link above above (by clicking on Social Networking) will take you to a site called Alison, where you can join for free and learn about all sorts of things espcially Viral Marketing using Facebook.  So enjoy!

One of the Biggest Business Mistakes on Facebook

It is still surprising how many friend requests I get that are businesses. Of course, if a business is called John Deere, and the person’s name is John Deere then it would be hard to detect.  However if a businesses name is Jane’s Fashion Boutique and you get a friend request for Jane’s Fashion Boutique,  then you can rightfully guess that this is not an actual person but rather a business.

Facebook Rules

Facebook Rules about business as a personal page

But here is the thing about going the personal page option.  You are only allowed a maximum of 5000 friends.  The reason:  Facebook believe that one person can not possible have 5000 true friends.  You may know a lot of people, but they are probably are not friends that you would invite to – let say – your wedding! And while you think that would be fantastic for your business, when you reach 5000 friends, your account is suspended.  Take a look at Ernie Els’ friend page.

Ernie created a FB page, and started accepting people that he met along the way.

Ernie created a FaceBoo page, and started accepting people that he met along the way.

When he hit 5000 his account was suspended and this is the message for future “friends”.

account now suspended

account now suspended

Another aspect that Facebook is concerned with is the type of advertising, promotion and selling.  Can you just imagine opening your Facebook page only to be bombarded with “spam postings”?  This would completely ruin the culture that Facebook envisioned which is more about connection.  Remember, Facebook started as a page where students could join to find out about more about tests and classes.  It grew to friends connecting with friends and has not stopped growing since….with now over a billion members on site.

This is why Facebook created a Business page set up.  You can create a number of business pages, and invite your friends to become a “fan” or to “like” the page.  With this method you can advertise, promote and sell as much as you want because a person that likes the page will know they will get posts from your business, and they are okay with that.

So if you are contemplating giving your Business a “Facebook Identity”, then do it the right way.  It would be absolutely tragic to spend all your time inviting friends, only for Facebook to cancel your membership!

I hope this helps….
